in 2018, the Chapter sponsored six youth events beginning in June with our first trap shoot at the Waitsburg Gun Club on the 10th. Dean Wass did a range safety and fire arm safety presentation.
On July 21st at East End Rod and Gun Club in Milton-Freewater, we shot 5-stand trap, which was new for a lot of our kids. Larry Bow talked about the importance of habitat for game birds and other wildlife.
August saw us back in Waitsburg on the 18th. Chet Hadley did a demonstration with his dogs on pointing birds and safe hunting over dogs. It was well received by our young hunters.
We held a golf tournament held in August at Veterans Golf course as a fund raiser for youth activities. Kit Lane of Clyde Shooting Preserve donated a 12-bird hunt that was given out. Thanks Kit!
September, we went back to East End Rod and Gun Club for our final shoot. We also had a family challenge. The best score out of 50 clays determined the winners; 25 clays each for youth and mentor.
September 22nd and 23rd was the youth hunting weekend. On Saturday we had 14 hunters and all got at least one bird. This was held at Bennington Lake with the birds being donated by Washington Fish and Game. On Sunday we had 12 kids with everyone getting a limit. These birds were purchased by the Chapter. It was held on Todd Kimble's ground; a big thank you to Todd!
In November there was a family hunt held at Clyde Shooting Preserve as a thank you for the support of our chapter members. This was well received with 35 young and old, veterans and first-time hunters, and families to hunt together. There were also 11 chapter members who volunteered their time and dogs so everyone could have a good time. We did this on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We will be doing these again in 2019 and maybe adding other activities. The spring plantings will be coming up. Hope you can join us. No child left indoors!
